Choosing a Credit Repair Company
It is hard to choose a credit repair company. Credit repair is a service and not a product. If you are buying a product – you want to shop for the lowest price. For instance – if you are buying a car or a phone, then by all means shop for the lowest price. What you are buying is a product. What you will get is that same product made in the same factory regardless of how much you pay for it. It’s not the same with credit repair. Credit Repair is a service. Different companies may give you different services or different levels of service. Let me give you an example of a service purchase. Your doctor is one such example. When you choose your doctor – was your first question, “How much is an office visit”? The answer I am sure is no. You may have wanted to know about his or her background, schooling, or experience. Price was probably a concern but certainly not the only factor. Another good example is auto insurance. Auto insurance is what I call a half product and half service. The product part is that you can get identical policies from different carriers. The coverage itself can be identical, the part that is service oriented is the claims process should you have a claim.
So what type of questions should you be asking when you interview a credit repair company? First, ask if they do certified mail. Ask if they will be writing to your creditors directly or just to the credit bureaus. Ask if those letters will be certified mail. Ask if those creditor letters will be coming from you or if they will intervene on your behalf as a third party. Ask if you have a tracking system where you can view your results. Ask what actions you will be required to perform during the process. Ask them about what results are typical with their credit repair company.
Be an educated consumer. Look for how long a credit repair company has been in business. Check their rating with the Better Business Bureau. Look for testimonials and samples of their work. Above all else: call and interview them. See if they are knowledgeable when you speak with them. Do you feel comfortable with them? Do you trust them?
